Recs Of Eternity
I neeeever make "go read this fic" posts, but I figured I should, at least once. This is, as I see it, the best of the best ever. We've got het, slash, anime, manga, tv, movies, you name it. Also, most of these things are epics, but if they are on the Rec List Of Eternity, that means they're worth the time, trust me. ♥
Also, I'd like to say that I shortened this thing. By a LOT, believe it or not. SO! GOING IN ORDER OF MY DISCOVERY!
Acheronia Atropos By Katsu (not ff.net) - This website is still the reason I prefer white-on-black websites, I kid you not. This is the fic that officially got me into not only fandom, but also slash (albeit never-acted-on). WHY READ IT, THOUGH?! It's Gundam Wing! You might not even know what Gundam Wing is! But that doesn't stop the fact that the plot is astounding and riveting, the world it takes place in (an AU, are any of you surprised) is disturbingly realistic, and the supernatural mystery of this fic is just...superb. The basic premise? A guy learns he has creepy disturbing supernatural powers, and people notice. Except SO MUCH MOOORE but I can't give it away. ♥ ALSO HAS TWO SEQUELS THAT YOU CAN FIND ON THE AUTHOR PAGE! \o/Geek-note: Acheronia Atropos = the moths in The Silence of the Lambs. Sorry, I can't help it, I'm obsessed with those books. D:
Upon a Fiery Steed By Vathara (ff.net) - You may have heard that I worship this writer. I do. Everything she writes is astounding, and I would rec you eeeevery story she has EVER written, but I'm trying to keep these short. ALSO trying to keep these mildly categorized. This is a crossover. A crossover of Gundam Wing (yes, again), and Stargate: SG1. If that doesn't get you interested, I don't know what would. It deals with every single issue in SG1 canon that ever made me frown and go 'hrrmf', and AGAIN Gundam Wing is an AU, but done brilliantly to fit into the Stargate universe. Why you want to read this fic: (a) BY VATHARA, (b) Culture shock at its best, and (c) cats with wings.
And you know what, here, just have her ff.net page. She's awesome and I love her, go forth and read.
A Forefeit Of Dreams By K L Morgan (NOT ff.net) - Labyrinth. This is the sequel, in my head. So-short-it-makes-me-sad-summary is that Sarah's friend is stupid enough to wish himself away, and to save him, Sarah has to put something on the line. Jareth asks for her dreams. She says yes, and voila, another run through a very, very different Labyrinth. I...I have no idea how to express my love for this one. It's brilliantly written, occasionally funny, makes so much sense it's terrifying, is scary in general, and heartbreakingly beautiful. HET! But good het. Very good het.
Frozen Moonlight By JaneDrew (ff.net, woe) - MORE HET! Also, semi-extreme AU. I like my AUs to fit with canon, just switched around. This one does. Rurouni Kenshin fic, though I doubt you know what that is! Go read some more Vathara for an Intro To RK. This one holds a special place in my heart. It's the fiiirst fic I ever read due to it being rec'd to me! And it's funny and scary and badass and amusing. You will notice a trend in my recs, I believe. LOOOONG summary shortened, a girl meets a bad, bad boy in high school, and then has the misfortune(?!) to meet up with him when she's alllll groweded up. It's rare for Kaoru to be so Kaoru in fic. This one manages it beautifully, and replays actual canon in such a unique way in front of you that you barely notice it. Sadly, it looks like it'll be an eternal-WIP. Woe. But it gets rec'd anyway.
Last Rites By Annwyd (ff.net grr) - This is less than 600 words, gen, and Final Fantasy 7. If you've ever played FF7, you need to read this fic. I have an undying love for the Turks - started for the theme music, and it got much, much bigger when I really began to understand what the Turks were. This fic is everything the Turks are. Brilliant. This is the only short fic being rec'd. It deserves it.
The Geek's Field Guide to Arachnids, by likethekoshka (wraithbait because
surranndie is awesome ♥) - The start of a biiig, spectacular SG:A series. John/Rodney, but SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH, I don't just read these for porn! GASP. I read this series because every single one is seriously like watching an episode of Stargate Atlantis. Except with slash. It's hillarious, full of those edge-of-your-seat-OH-SHIT-NOT-CITRUS!!1! scenes and feelings, and the best part of it all is that even when they're married, they are still very much John-and-Rodney with all the BEST AND WORST (which are sometimes the best) parts of that. They all start with a cliffhanger and just. keep. building. Arachnids isn't my favorite (my favorite's actually the one with the whumping, can't remember the title...) but they're all hillarious and great. ALSO, THEY ARE ALL COLLAB-FIC! ♥
I'll deeeefinitely be back to rec more; I need to go FIND THEM first. Argh. Curse me and my lack of bookmarking!
