(I'm considering getting me a Hemophilia icon just so I don't have to continuously differentiate it...)

Twincest. *shakes head* Lucas is so twisted.

The Johnson Twins:
A Hemophilia Background Essay sort of thing.

Lucas Evret Johnson was born an exhausting four hours before Quinn Julius Johnson to the farmer and coffin maker Joshamee Johnson and his wife, the schoolteacher Ezra Johnson. Although nobody can really tell the difference since they look almost exactly alike, Lucas and Quinn are in fact fraternal twins, instead of identical.

The differences are subtle, but definite. Lucas' facial structure is harsher and thinner, his blonde hair brighter, and his eyes are an almost freakishly light blue reminiscent of faded jeans. Quinn's face is softer and more oblong, hair a more muted yellow, and his eyes are a piercing sky blue. Lucas is also (although they don't know it) almost two inches taller, his voice just a bit lower, and he's developed a bad habit of almost growling out his words due to an extended period of having tuberculosis.

But, back to the background.

Quinn was, unarguably, always the favorite. And for good reason, since he never cried, never complained, and learned exceptionally quickly. Of course, this was all due to the fact he learned from Lucas' mistakes, since Lucas was constantly jumping ahead to be the first to do something. In reality, they both have equal intelligence.

Anyway, their childhood, although slightly disfunctional due to excessive competition between the two twins (their parents were never sure which was oldest and youngest, to their shame, since they'd both been wrapped in identical blankets and put on a table next to each other, and the idiot doctor forgot which was which, so Quinn and Lucas constantly fought for the title of "Eldest"). However, this rivalry also spurned both on in their studies, religious duties, and work. While Quinn excelled at sharp-shooting, Lucas mastered the quickdraw at age seven.

Their parents were proud. The children were happy. And then disease struck.

Lucas was struck with what was then called consumption at the age of ten. His parents panicked, and when they turned twelve moved from Denver, Colorado to Spring City, Utah, hoping the slightly altered climate would help. It did, slightly, but his sickness still grew. Their parents worked vigorously to try and afford the expensive care of a specialist, leaving Quinn to take care of Lucas.

Here developed Lucas' oppressive fratriphilic complex. Maybe it was a strange sort of Stockhomes' Syndrome. Maybe it was the simple fact Lucas hadn't seen another person his age for almost two years. Or, maybe it was simply the desperation to hold onto something for as long as he could, and to be in control of something when his own body was killing itself from the inside out.

Quinn remained ignorant of his brother's more-than-brotherly affections until they were sixteen. This was the year everything changed.

Their parents, after four years of overworking themselves, finally could afford their specialist. When he came, he did two things- gave Lucas one vial of painkillers (also known as opium), and stated he had from one year to four years to live.

When his parents left the room to collect themselves, Lucas took his first sip from the vial. For exactly three hours, he was perfectly fine, and got to actually go outside with Quinn, where they shot at the nearby rabbits, bringing five in for dinner (which was by no means a mean feat). Immediately after the three hours were up, it was even worse.

Understandably, Lucas became addicted to it. Time went on, and as time slipped by, so did the contents of that single vial of opium.

It was after he took the final sip that he kissed Quinn. His twin was understandably amazed, since he could taste not only the opium (which got into his system too, resulting in the two-minute exchange), but also the recently coughed-up blood.

This is the point where Lucas was finally shoved away and Quinn ran out of the room.

Lucas, numbed from his drug, followed after.

Words were exchanged, and Lucas went inside, packed a bag, grabbed his guns, and left, but not without forcibly kissing Quinn one last time and making sure his twin was well aware of the fact that Lucas would be coming back eventually, regardless of his disease or not.

Quinn was left to make a new life with his terribly confused (and almost embarassingly naive) parents and nightmares in Spring City. At 20, he was bitten by his new "friend" Damian Helldirge.

Lucas travelled around the west, finally getting to the west coast (stealing opium and money on the way) and, conveniently enough, met up with a specific vampire who bit the boy (even though he was 21 at the time), and devoted himself to both mercenary work and fulfilling his promise to his "beloved twin", as Lucas likes to put it.

The rest, is Hemophilia.
